Stearns VINELink Release Coverage
Minnesota VINELink is a free, anonymous custody-status and notification service. It covers county jails and detention facilities, including the Stearns County Jail channel. A basic check does not require an account. Users may also call 877-664-8463. The service can provide custody status, location, scheduled-release information when available, booking number, facility contact information, and victim-referral information.
VINELink can notify registered users about release, transfer, escape, or death. Those are different events. A transfer means the person changed custodians and may remain confined. The official materials do not promise how long a released result stays searchable, so VINELink should not be treated as a seven-year archive or as a release certificate.

Run a Stearns VINELink Search
Begin with one person, not a broad release list. Use enough identifying information to avoid selecting a similar name. VINELink facility and booking data are important because one person can have several custody episodes or move between agencies. The roster's warning also applies: a name and demographic match do not equal fingerprint confirmation.
- Open Minnesota VINELink or call 877-664-8463.
- Search the individual with the identifying details available in the live interface.
- Select the closest match and compare the booking number and named facility.
- Read custody status, location, and any scheduled-release information exactly as labeled.
- If a release or transfer change appears, note the event and time received.
- Confirm the county episode through the Stearns Past profile and, when needed, Sheriff Records.
If the person is absent, test spelling, aliases, identifiers, facility, and custody system. Do not infer release from a blank result. A recent booking may not yet be available, an older release may have fallen outside the service's unstated result-retention period, or the person may be in DOC, federal, immigration, or another county custody.
Stearns VINELink Result Fields
The live result should control the wording. The official Minnesota materials identify several categories VINE can provide, but not every field will appear for every person or event. Never rename scheduled information as an actual release.

A VINE alert answers when the service reported a change. The Stearns Past detail separately shows Released Date for the selected booking. Minnesota public release data can add the exact time and legal basis, while transfer data can identify the receiving agency or person. These records should be read together.
Register Stearns Release Alerts
Registration starts from the selected individual record. Confirm the person and Stearns County Jail before adding a contact method. The service supports phone, email, text, and supported in-app delivery. Official materials tie the PIN step specifically to phone calls, so do not assume the email or text flow uses that same process.
- Locate and select the matching person in Minnesota VINELink.
- Choose registration for release and custody-change notification.
- Select an offered contact method and enter the requested details.
- For a phone registration, create a PIN and keep it available.
- When the automated call arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge the alert.
- Retain the PIN for cancellation or contact changes.
Automated phone notifications can continue for up to 24 hours or until receipt is verified. Entering the PIN confirms that the call was heard and stops the repeated notification cycle. Use the Minnesota VINE Interface
The official Minnesota VINELink search and registration interface is the correct place to match a Stearns County detainee and choose available notification methods.
The captured interface gives the current starting point. Because screens and options can change, follow the live labels rather than relying on an old sequence, especially for email, text, or in-app confirmation.
VINE and Haven Split Custody
Minnesota divides notifications by custodian. VINE connects with county jails and detention facilities. Minnesota DOC prisons use DOC Haven. This local distinction becomes critical when a Stearns Past record ends because the person was transferred to MNDOC.
A Stearns VINE transfer alert may accurately report the end of county custody. It does not show that the person entered the community. Follow the transfer recipient to the MNDOC Locator, compare name, birth date, AKA, six-digit Offender ID, and Current Status, then use Haven for later prison events. A community or supervision status can show that physical prison custody ended while DOC jurisdiction continues.
DOC's date terms also differ. An anticipated or projected date can change. Actual Release Date is retrospective. Confinement Release Date concerns departure from confinement, while Termination Date generally concerns the end of the sentence or DOC jurisdiction. Keep the official label attached to every date.

Confirm a Stearns VINE Alert
After a release alert, open the Stearns County Past Inmate Search. Last name is required. Use the optional name and booking-range fields to identify the correct episode, then open the detail and read Booking Date and Released Date. Save the court docket and JCA number if displayed. The full county search and record chain is also organized on the Stearns County released-inmate lookup.
If the alert said transfer, preserve that word. Ask Sheriff Records at 320-259-3700 for the public date, time, legal basis, and receiving agency or person. The Adult Jail Register may add admit and discharge date, sentence length, and discharge type. A request scoped to one booking episode is more useful than asking the office to decide whether someone is “free.”

Beyond Stearns VINELink Coverage
Federal and immigration custody require separate sources. The BOP Inmate Locator can show a federal release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody.” Those labels refer only to BOP. A person may still be in a county jail, state system, immigration detention, another form of custody, or in the community under federal supervision.
ICE ODLS is a current immigration-detention locator and needs specific identifiers. USMS pretrial detention has no comparable historical public locator, so the federal docket and an agency record request become important. If a Stearns record shows a federal recipient, begin with the county transfer fields and follow that named system. Do not fill a gap between county and federal records with an assumed community release.
The Minnesota Public Registrant Search is also separate. It covers limited statutory community-notification categories and is not a release-date archive. An absent result cannot prove release, lack of registration, or final discharge. Use the custodian's record for custody questions.
Troubleshoot Stearns VINE Alerts
A missed or confusing alert calls for a source check, not a guess. First confirm that the registration is attached to the correct person and the Stearns County Jail booking. Review the phone number, email address, or text destination entered. Phone users should keep the PIN available and answer the automated call long enough to enter it. Without acknowledgment, calls can repeat for the official notification cycle.
If VINELink shows no person, compare the spelling and identifiers against the county Current Inmates roster. Then search the Past system. A match in Current means Stearns still lists the adult in custody at the roster timestamp. A Past result with Released Date means that selected booking ended. Both can appear for one person when an older episode closed and a newer one began. VINELink absence alone resolves none of those possibilities.
Call VINE help at 877-664-8463 for service or registration help. Use Stearns Sheriff Records for the official county episode. When staff need a formal request, ask for existing public fields by name: release date and time, legal basis, discharge type, or transfer recipient. This keeps a notification issue separate from the record needed to verify the event.
